just installed a new 80gb hard drive, installed my windows xp, loaded up all my applications as was on there before. previous bootups were taking approx 90 seconds. it now takes 8 mins!!!!

This is a new hard drive with xp pro, that's why i'm posting here. no other changes.

anyone have an idea why this takes so long.

    any suggestions could not hurt.

System: clone, piii 850, abit be6 motherboard, 80gb hard drive, xp, sound, cdrom, dvd, cdr-w, sound, nic, firewire card, usb 2.0 card and usb 4 port hub.

    looking for some answers.

    Ouch - 8 minutes.

I'd first check the event logs to see if any boot errors are occuring late enough for the log to pick it up.

If not or if nothing interesting, try a Clean Boot to see if any of the usual suspects are causing problems.

Also - though I haven't tried it, the info Here about BootVis from microsoft which will allow you to watch in detail what is happening at boot time should be a help.
