Have an IBM Thinkpad z60t from Lenovo that came preinstalled with at least half of the memory containing Thinkpad programs in addition to Windows XP Home. Most of the TP programs seem tp be system tools. Not sure though. Would it be safe to get rid of them (since I have never used them in the 4 months that I have had it)? It takes up way too much memory.

Also, came installed with Symantec:mad: "#@*#" (bugs up all the games)which I uninstalled and replaced with McAfee (which I had handy and have no problems with):D

    Would appreciate your input ASAP.:)

I went to the website you suggested. Only a few files were listed and they did not recommend removing them. The others are programs listed under ThinkVantage productivity center: Access Connections, Access Help, Active Protection system, away manager, client security solution, create recovery media, easyeject utility, helpcenter, keyboard customizer utility, power manager, presentation director, productivity center, registration on the internet, rescue & recovery, software installer, system migration assistant 5.0, system update, thinkpad configuration, ultranav wizard.

Basically, they seem to be the same stuff Windows offers. IMO, a bunch of garbage designed to take up harddrive space and make you want more. One of my pet peives is buying a pc from Dell, IBM,etc. and getting preloaded junk that you don't &/or will never use.

Would like to have my HD space back!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks for any input.

    Hi T&S,

Ok, seems to be the OEM crappola :)

Take it off, but as with anything, make sure that if one of those items is ever needed, you have the source which I assume is on a disc that TP supplied with the Hardware.

    Regards - Charles

Totally agree. While waiting on your reply, I went to Thinkpad's forum. Most of the folks using it think it's great, provided you use it. Too much of a good thing????

I had already went to msconfig and prevented them from starting on bootup. On a funny note, we booted the IBM Z60t and the Dell Inspiron 6000 (practically the same processor speeds) at the same time. (We took all the preloaded stuff off of the Dell, BTW) Dell was on in half the time. My old dinosaur desktop isn't that slow!

I think after removing some programs, we noticed about 4 photo programs, 3 for DVD's & CD's in addition to Windows Media Player.
WHAT'S WITH ALL THIS DUPLICATE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!???

Thanks for you input and FOR LETTING ME VENT!:D
