I do hope someone can offer some help here.

Like religion I make DiskImage backups.
My system has 4 primary partitions one of which has 2 logical partitions.
In essence two primary partitions are running WINDOWS XP and UBUNTU respectively.
In the C drive (running WINDOWS XP) I used DriveImage to make a backup of this system on an external drive.

Let us say I had a problem in the Windows XP partition and I reformated that partition completely. I reinstalled WINDOWS XP and then (to avoid installing all the other applications) I tried to use the backup image located on the external drive.
I booted the system up using the DriveImage installation disk. After some initial procedures (NONE OF WHICH INVOLVED ASKING WHERE THE IMAGE FILE WAS LOCATED OR WHAT IS TO BE RESTORED) I got the following message (partially included here):

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer........

    STOP: 0x0000007B ............... "

Can anyone tell me what is going on here? For example, will DriveImage do a correct backup when Ubuntu is installed?

Your Linux install likely has nothing to do with this:

But remember by formatting drive C: you removed the boot record information for the Linux installation along with that of your original XP installation.

    Wild Bill:

Thanks for that additional information regarding the boot records. After this melee I am going to have to re-install UBUNTU anyway.

I appreciate the breadth of your knowledge. You have handled nicely my problems and they have been all over the map. So thanks again.
