Hi, is there anyway that I can setup an out of office reply in outlook express. I know I can set up a rule that will do this but leaving computer on and express open kinda defeats the purpose of it...... Is there a addon or something for it, third party programs?

    Thanks

You want an software add-on that works with your computer off?

Think about it for a bit.

Most auto-replies that you see are set at the local mail server, or at your ISP and its mail servers -- if they offer the service. Some do, some do not.

To me, that is the best way to do it.
But take into consideration, that it will do ALL mail including the SPAMMERS. This will happen either way you go. Do you really want this?

Well the software would just tell our mail server to reply with out of office when selected as in Microsoft Outlook. I can set an out of office manually but for almost 100 addresses , them ringing me up to let me know when there out is just not practical.........

    Thanks

I think I was too subtle in my first post.

A computer that is turned off is not going to be running any software.

I'll try this again, it would be third party software/plugin whatever that will add a feature of out of office to outlook, that would let the user send a message to the mail server to turn on the out of office feature..... I KNOW the software won't run when the computer is off, I'm not stupid, I now know it can't be done, cause Microsoft don't let users pick choices, there just force it all or nothing on you, I'm going to find a way about it though. Maybe write an extension for thunderbird or something

    Thanks

You originally asked about Outlook Express, not Outlook, so I am now confused.

There is no generic way to modify a out-of-office response as each mail server is completely different in how this is done.

If you try to write this yourself, whether for Firefox or any other program, I assure you that it cannot be generalized if your mail server is hosted by your ISP. For an Exchange or other local mail server in your office, you could script this easily enough as a one-off solution. I just fail to see the need for this applet.

I apologize, as I am missing something important in your request. It would be fastest and easiest to write the instructions for all users and email them to all employees.
