Running XP Pro and on start up I get the following message pop up,

Application Failed to intialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop. To start the service, restart computer or search Help and Support on how to start a service manually.

No matter how many times I restart my computer I get this message and looking in the control panel I see the service is stopped.
    Any Help please.
    Regards Paul

If this just started in the last day or two it's probably because you have the version that expired Dec 31st.

    New Version

I've noticed several PCs getting this error. It's not your computer. It should go away.

This is Windows Defender telling you that your trial has expired. The message will go away because Defender will simply refuse to run.

For this free program, download and install Windows Defender final. This solves the error problem and restores a working Defender. I wrote about this yesterday, including installation tips, sources and other materials. How you install Windows Defender final is dependent on the trial version you now have installed: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=23508
