Hello everyone--i've been struggling with some major issues with my computer for a few weeks now. (I'm using a laptop to type this). I think I have a serious virus or something. I was able to obtain a CD which includes Ad-Aware. I've run it and it's given me 38 "critical objects ". They all have to do with the Registry Keys or Values but some of them are for "e acceleraton" which is who I have my virus protection through. Should I allow Ad-Aware to get rid of those. The others are not any I recognize and are "Malware" which I'm pretty sure I do what to get rid of. Is that correct? Please help! This is driving me crazy!!! Thanks!

eAcceleration StopSign was considered scumware a couple of years back. It was removed from the rogue list in 2004. It isn't a decent anti-virus program compared to other free ones such as AVG, Avast, AntiVir and Nod32. I assume because of it previously conflicting with other anti-malware applications such as AdAware it would still be found by them to be suspect.

Hello tareco and welcome to the Board :)

    To get you cleaned up:

    Download and run HijackThis:

Download from here http://radiosplace.com/ latest version 1.99.1

Download it to it's own folder, for example create a folder C:\HijackThis

unzip (double click on zipped folder)

    click on the execute

click on Do a system scan and save a logfile and save to the folder you just created

copy resultant .txt file and paste into your next post

Post the HJT log in a new post in the Virus and Spyware removal forum http://www.windowsbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?f=41 with a link back to this post.

    Regards - Charles

    Scanning results

Thanks to both of you for responding to my post. The link that you sent, can I download that to a floppy? I am unable to initiate anything on my PC.

I don't have time now but in an hour or two, perhaps I'll provide a little more info on the problems I've been having. Thanks!

Yes you can - small program, a .zip file little more than 200 KB.

Remember to post the scan into a new post in the section of this Board I linked.

    Regards - Charles

    Alright Tareco

BBS members I am answering a question he asked in another thread. See!
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=60807

mr moderator can stighten it out.

    Tareco

The error message came from the fact that you used Spyware clearners (and rightly so) see Whiskymans post above.

As he states eAcceleration StopSign is barely reputable, used to be really bad and still not very good at all.

And used to crack me up with their TV ads. I thought is was so funny to see adware scumware actually advertised on TV.

The error is where the Spyware scanner still detects it as malware. It partially removed it.

    RUNDLL- "error loading c:\Program Files\Commn Files|eAcceleration\Installer\stopsinfo.dll

Is part of the Stopsign antivirus.

Go to add/remove programs and see if it will uninstall properly. It may not now since the Spyware cleaners have partially removed it.

If you can't get rid of it on your own then get back to us and we will give you a procedure.

After you get rid of it.

Get a real Virus scannner. AVG I beleive is the best FREE one.

    System scan

Thanks to all of you for your assistance! But I am going to have to put this aside for now. I was sent a recovery CD by the manufacturer and it wasn't working which is why I thought my system was really ******* up and why I came to this site. I just realized that the CD they sent me was the wrong one! It's for a different model! Another is on it's way to me and I am going to put all of this aside until after I get it and can see if it fixes my very complicated problem.

I'll check in at that time to let you know! Thanks again and Happy New Year everyone!
