One of our computers recently died. I removed the hard drive and put it into an enclosure kit so we could still have access to all the data that was saved on that computer. This is working quite well.

Does anyone know how I can retrieve all of the Outlook Expres 6 e-mails and addresses that were stored on that system? It is the one piece of information I have been unable to locate on the hard drive.

    Thanks in advance.

They will be stored in the user profile that had the active outlook express account set up.

    Something like the below

    Documents and Settings\Supervisor\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{42B61E98-3EA4-4171-9489-6DE0F49472BA}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

To find all of this you will need to allow show hidden system files.

Another way is to search for inbox.dbx

    Address book search for *.wab

Once you've located the .dbx files on the old hard drive, use Outlook Express's File>Import>Messages wizard. Tell it to import from a store folder, then use the browse button to point it at the folder on the old drive with the .dbx files.

Use File>Import>Addresses for the .wab (address book) file.

    Thanks,
I got the e-mails in with no problem. I'm still having trouble locating the address book, but I'll dig around a bit more until I find it.

The default location of the Address Book in Windows XP is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\ "UserName "\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\ "UserName ".wab

In the same location there should be a backup "UserName ".wab~

    allenjm01,
    you're welcome ... :) ... !

On a regular basis, I backup the complete Outlook Express folder and Address Book folder (in addition to other stuff) to my backup hard disk. If anything should happen, I copy the backed up files to the original location and I only lose the new stuff added since the most recent backup.
