Man! Did you take a looksee at what you have to do in NERO to overburn a disc? Not a simple procedure at all. But I am wondering if the cloning file is really a good one. Does the original disc requires this special attention. It would seem to me to be an unnecessary expense in the manufacturing process. Would a company accept such a ploy? I think not. I am beginning to feel something is busted in the cloning process.

You've lost me somewhat because I'm not sure what "cloning" file you are referencing. I have never heard of 321 Softclone but there are a lot of things I've never heard of so that doesn't necessarily mean too much. 321 Studios had a program called DVD X Copy which copied DVD's but that company went belly up under the pressure of costly litigation. (The software was declared "illegal" by a San Francisco federal court ruling.) I don't know if there is any link between this software and the SoftClone that you have referenced.

As to the older (pre-sale) version of Clone CD, that was a packet writing engine and I never met a CD that wouldn't copy exactly when using disc to disc copy in conjunction with two opticals. As mentioned earlier, I did encounter problems when using it with dual layer DVDRW drives and retired it when I no longer had anything except dual layer drives.

I first used UltraISO to produce the 725 MB file. Incidentally to rip this file took about 2 hours. The resultant file is too big to put on a 700MB disk.
I then tried using the 321Soft Clone program. I downloaded these from the Internet after Googling "CD Clone" or something like that. The blurb that went with these said they would get around any disk "protection ". (They have a time limit on their use.) But believe me when I say the source disk cannot be copied by any simple copying program be it to a Hard Drive or disk to disk by optical methods.

Why don't you try making an image with Clone CD and then burning that? Again, it uses a different process than most other cloning/burning/duplicating software.

Finally, Success!!!! I made a copy of the protected disk. The program that did it was UtraISO and I used the ISO mode....not the CLONE mode.(The Clone mode did not produce a workable disk.)

When you use this program ignore the estimated time to do the job. In my case it got up as high as 23 hours but actually took about 1/2 hour. I was discouraged at first. I was going to stop the process but became busy doing other things when I noticed, after about 1/2 hour, the process was copmpleted. I then made a copy of the resulting "iso" file using RecordNow.
AND IT WORKED. (Note also the resultant disk was about 634 MB)

I want to thank you for the interchange of information during this arduous task... I think we both learned something in the conversations.
