I'm working on cleaning up my father-in-law's computer. It's not running too poorly or anything, but he doesn't know much about computers. He does a lot of web surfing, plays partypoker, and downloads things he thinks he needs. So, I just want to make sure his computer is okay.

    Here's the HJT log:

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Not seeing anythnig odd or unusual. The machine is clean.

For future reference, HJT needs to be installed in its own folder, as described below:
Go to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. Move HijackThis.exe into this folder (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe). When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

    I agree with TeMerc

You could get rid of the background Qtasks.

Make sure he does use Msn messenger. If not get rid of it.

And if AOL is not his ISP or he does not use AOL messenger then there is some cleanup that can be done there.

Hopefully he has Adaware and Spybot, if Webroot is already running online they should not, but he should run them ever so often.

A little extra cleanup help, see links below.

The following are the best free cleaners below

    DCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/DCleaner_d4790.html

    ATF-Cleaner http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/

Finally **** Cleaner get the slim version http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx

Dcleaner and ATFClean are purely disk cleaners but CClean also has a registry cleaner (Issues), run this also as many times as it takes to come up clean.

    Mike
