Does anyone know how to delete (remove) addons from IE7 manage addons program? I cannot find it anywhere nor can I seem to find any referral to it. I find all kinds of stuff for enableing and unenabling but nothing for removal of any particular addon.:)

barrybeck1--Click IE7 Tools|Manage Add-ons|Enable or Disable Add-Ons. You will now get a list of Add-Ons currently in use. If you click the drop-down arrow in the "Show" line at the top, you can have the list display all Add-Ons that can be used. You will see that you can Delete ActiveX Add-Ons, but not Browser Helper Object (BHO) Add-Ons. The latter can only be Disabled.
But more importantly click the link at the left bottom of the window "Learn more about add-ons ". That will open a Help Window with some good info. For example, when you Disable a BHO Add-On by one of the methods described, it is "permanently" disabled--almost as good as Deleting it.

    add-0ns

Ok I understand that we cannot delete the add-ons if they are BHO's from the manage add-ons window in IE7 but I have to believe they are stored on the computer somewhere in a file. It would seem if we can locate that file, be it in the registery or elsewhere, then we could delete unwanted add-ons from even showing up in the add-on file.
I just don't like accepting "you can't delete it" as the main answer!
    Anyone got any ideas?

I don't think the earlier suggestions stated that you cannot remove the items, only that removal using IE was limited.

. Most toolbars you install leave a removal entry in Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, and this is how they should be removed.

. Some toolbars put the uninstall in their program listing. Start, All Programs, and highlight those not found in Add/Remove and look for an uninstall.

    . Active-X was discussed above.

For all other entries you find problematic, run HijackThis, from its own folder, and use it to make the registry deletions.

Then from a printout of the HijackThis scan results log, use Windows Explorer to find and delete the file(s) involved.
Now the entries you checkmark for removal and then have HijackThis "fix ", the startup entries in the registry are removed.

Follow with Windows Explorer, using your HijackThis printout, to remove the files. You might find this easier done in Safe Mode.
