    Troops:

Let's say we just booted up and want to immediately use WORD.

If I click directly on the WORD icon everything proceeds normally.

If I click, in WINDOWS EXPLORER, on any file with a "doc" suffix the file opens up with an inserted window asking:
"Do you want to revert to the saved (name of file) "
    e.g.
"Do you want to revert to the saved xxx.doc"

Does anybody have an explanation of what is going on or what to do to get things back to normal?

    David

Where in Explorer are you clicking/finding the doc files? If it's a temp folder then that's the problem.

    Savvy Steve:

Any file that has a "doc" extension, in any folder, brings up the described message. (In fact I have never tried opening a "doc" file in a TEMP folder.)

Go ahead and state the version of Word that you're using...

For grins, right click on one of these mean little files and select Open With. Then Select Word and place a check mark to always use....

Is it ALL doc files or just two that have this problem?

Do the files have the standard Word icon?

Are these files ones you created with 97 or are they files that might have been created with a newer version?

Steve of the R. Jones variety:

I click on the WORD icon and create a file called Junkxxx.doc and store it in a
folder named TRY. (I could have stored it in any folder.)

I then open WORD and click on FILE, seek out the file Junkxxx.doc in the presented list of 9 previously opened files and it comes up just nicely. I close WORD.

Open WORD again. If instead of using the last 9 opened file list I click on OPEN and seek the file, as I would in WINDOWS EXPLORER , and click on Junkxxx.doc it opens clean and simple. Lets close WORD

I then go to WINDOWS EXPLORER, seek the folder TRY and double click the file junkxxx.doc. It comes up with the insert panel asking me
"Do you want to revert to the saved Junkxxx.doc. "

So this testing procedure, I trust, answers the series of questions you have asked.

Have any idea as to what is going on?

    Steverino:

That did it. No need to burn the PC. The fifth method on the file you suggested worked like a charm. I tried the 4th suggestion first. That did not do so pretty godd. I then tried the 5th with success.

Thanks for the help. Hooray for WINDOWSBBS
