Gentlemen, I'm trying to combine my G: and F: drives onto one drive (G:) using Acronis' Disk Director. I've created the new logical drive (X:), and it shows up in both DD 10 and XP Pro's Disk Management. It does not appear in Windows Explorer, however, so I can't copy my old F: drive onto the new partition.

I'm a technically challenged, old fa*t, so please be very elementary in any explanation you might be able to offer. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can render.:)

You'll need to Format that new drive before Windows Explorer can see it. You can do that in Disk Management. Highlight the drive in question in Disk Management > click Action > All Tasks > Format.

Do be careful to have the correct drive selected. ;)

Surferdude2, thank you for the prompt reply & suggestion. I did format the partition, as you suggested, but it still doesn't appear in WinExp. Here's what I'm trying to do - I may not have given you enough info in Post 1 --

I want to take all data off my F current drive (40G Raptor); reformat it; put it into my new computer; copy the current OS that's in the new computer onto the reformatted F dirve; and then set the old F drive as my new, active C drive in the new computer (using the "old" C drive there as a backup).

Before disconnecting the F drive in my old computer, I need to move all data off the F drive onto a partition (drive letter F) on the existing G drive, so the G drive keeps its current data and also contains all data from the old F drive (keeping the F drive letter so I don't have to reinstall all the programs again).

Did you reboot after the format?

Even if you get this new creation recognized, you'll not be able to pull off your plan. It's full of flaws.

I'd say just use the new system on it's present HD and slave the old OS drive so you can copy data from it. Reinstall any programs that require Registry support. You'll know what those are when you try to run them.

If you later want to exchange to another drive, that no problem. First things first, get all of your programs up and running on the new drive with all your old data intact. Your plan sounds harder than need be and will likely leave you hanging at some point.
