Hi oiram, I struck that problem on my mates PC. It would receive Emails but not let us send out Emails,
First it said it was stopped by Norton Security ( Anti virus etc), so we Norton told ud to uninstall Norton , restart and the download it again, still the same , so I removed Norton completely and it was still no good , in the end I removed all ,his ISP connections and then did a restart and re installed:) his ISP connection and it fixed it.
We had triple checked all the info etc and it all seemed correct,
Not sure what happened but it works now .
    Cheers Des.

"Armestier "'s Microsoft KB link is must reading.

I can only add the following suggestion. Your connection is being terminated because of a timeout setting on the mail server.

If this is persistent, and not a one-time event, you need to adjust a setting in Outlook Express, (that could help, but is not a cure). And examine a firewall setting.

    Outlook Express first:
    1. Start Outlook Express.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
    3. Click the Mail tab.
    4. Click your POP3 account, and then click Properties.
    5. Click the Advanced tab.
    6. Gradually increase the server timeout setting until hopefully the problem is resolved.

Now I am not sure what firewall you are using, but you have to allow IGM router registration to occur. Under the XP SP2 firewall, you will find an entry under the Advanced tab, ICMP settings, to 'allow incoming router requests.' Other firewalls may call this entry differently, but the setting for permitting incoming router registration requests will be there.

A final note: emails with lots of attachments, and/or, multiple recipients listed directly or as CC or BCC entries, can fail. This is up to your ISP. They will limit the size and number of participants allowed for an email, and your error would result from the fact that you exceeded their guidelines in one way or another.
