A friend is unable to receive mail but can send it OK. The failure details 'Error 0x800CCC0E - Socket 10060' show when attempting to receive. Although all the server settings in 'email accounts' have been checked many times the problem persists. I think it is probably to do with POP3 but am unable to discover the correct procedure to overcome this problem. I could use some help please!

Hello BryanLb and welcome to the Board,

There is a distinction between Outlook and Outlook Express - which is it?

    Regards - Charles

Well both really! My friend was using OE and then installed MS Office Pro 2003 which, of course, offered Outlook as the mail client. I was unable to configure Outlook as the Incoming connection failed when setting up the new account (with TalkTalk). Not wishing to be without email we went back to Outlook Express where I expected to be 'as before' so to speak. Here however OE refused to handle incoming mail as well with the error Ox800CCC0e displayed. So I was beaten on both counts. The preference is for Outlook.
    Regards, BryanLb.

    Socket error = #10060

10060 is a Connection Time-out error that usually appears when the client does not receive a response from the server for a specific command.

Trying to send an email that is larger then the ISP allows can cause this error.

    Outlook and Outlook Express

Many thanks to you both for helping. However I have managed to correct this myself by trial and error. I had not checked the server's address details absolutely correctly - outgoing mail should be SMTP.talktalk.net and not smtp.talktalk.net. Silly, senile old me!
