    (IT professional)

In WinXP or any Windows version, I don't understand where my RAM is being used.

The Task manager on my PC says 524M is currently being used but I only have a few apps open.

What I don't understand is, I'm expecting the "Mem Usage" column to add up to the "Commit Charge" which it never does.

Is there a tool that REALLY shows the RAM used & shows who are the real memory by allocation & usage?

    Much thanks,
    Jim

Have you tried going back into task manager processes and selecting view to include additional columns that may give you a better handle on this?

    ;)

My thought is that the RAM commit charge in the task manager vs. Actual RAM installed gives a good idea of how things are going on that PC.

But I'd like to see a tool that shows the commit charge per application & have it add up to the total commit charge.

Otherwise when you look at the Memory used per application, it doesn't add up, but only gives a relative idea of who is taking so much RAM.

    Hi, Jim. :)

Just in case you or someone reading this thread are/is not cautious, I suggest you steer clear of some of the links in that Google search result. There are three "red" sites linked in just the first page (the first ten sites) listed according to McAfee's SiteAdvisor:
For those people who might be prone to computer infections, I recommend you download and install SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor is a good additional layer of security. It will show you the SiteAdvisor-evaluated "green, yellow, and red" sites in a Google search. While not fool-proof, it can help you decide whether to click on a link provided by Google or not. :)

I don't intend to stray from the thread topic. I just want to help ensure people exercise caution.

    Hi again, Jim.

I searched SnapFiles.com for "RAM usage monitor " and came up with several pages of links to software that may or may not fit your specific need.

I also searched Major Geeks for RAM usage monitor with Major Geeks' Google search box and came up with several more links to software located at Major Geeks.

Here is a link to Major Geeks' "Memory" section that you may want to browse.

I'm sorry I can't point you to a specific application that monitors and reports memory commit charge in MB per application as I am not familiar with such software.
