 Went to use my Windows Movie Maker for the first time, it opens and then I get an error message that it has to close. If I close the error message, Movie Maker also closes. If I just move the error message to the bottom of the window, it appears that I can use it. Windows XP Home and SP2 were pre-installed on the cpu when I purchased it. Thanks

Check Windows Event Viewer Application log for errors relating to movie maker.

To open Event Viewer, go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc, click OK.

You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.

Thanks for responding. I got into where you sent me, but I didn't find anything listed for MovieMaker. Should I be looking for something else? Thanks

After more checking, I found this in event viewer: Faulting application moviemk.exe version 2.1.4026.0, faulting module qedit.dll, version 6.5.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001b2af. Am guessing that qedit.dll is causing problem, and somehow has to be reloaded? I have no SP2 disc; it came preloaded when I bought my cpu. Thanks

Try this: In windows movie maker, go to Tools menu, click Options, select the Compatibility tab.

See if you have any filters listed there, and turn them off one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem.

That would fall into the "I've never done that before" category. There is only 1 shown: Inter Video Audio Decorder 5.0.11.533, and it wasn't checked. Thanks
