Thanks in advance for the help you guys. Based on previous threads this seems to be a pretty common problem. My Mcafee virus protection does not pickup on this particular and my spyware dr does but can not resolve the problem. Running XP SPS2. I proceeded to download hijack this and run the scan and will post my log results. Thanks so much for your help.

Hello and welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

And yet another Goldun infection. Without ant further ado, lets get the latest version of HaxFix working.

Download haxfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
    • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon "
    • Click "Next "
    • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
    • Click "Finish "

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:

    • 1. Make logfile
      2. Run auto fix
      3. Run manual fix
      E. Exit Haxfix

    • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
    • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt
    • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread. (c:\haxfix.txt)

  3. to hide this advert.

OK, I want to try a couple more procedures with this infection. I had a similar case the other week. Lets gather some more info however.

Access your Add or Remove Programs Control Panel by hitting your [Start] button, select Control Panel and click on Add or Remove Programs. Then find the following programs and click the [Change|Remove] button for each, if they are listed
    MyWaySA

Download the Killbox from here and save it to the desktop.
    • Double-click the KillBox icon on your desktop to open it
    • Select "Delete on Reboot "
    • Then select "All files ".
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpqrio.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmmdiag32.exe

    Return to Killbox
    • Go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard ".
    • Click the red-and-white [Delete File] button.
    • Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the 'Pending Operations' prompt.

    Do not reboot yet.

Open Hijackthis, select the [Do a system scan only] button and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes [] next to them and press the [Fix Checked] button. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, nor any other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: lpqrio - lpqrio.dll (file missing)

Reboot the system and then run the tool below.

    Please download SilentRunners from here

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.
Then select 'Yes' to confirm the search.
When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile created back into this thread for me to see along with a fresh HJT log.

A few things first couldn't get clipboard to copy into the dropdown for killbox so I manually typed in paths and did them a singles. Also did not see all the entries in the HJT after doing the scan so only deleted the ones that were there. Ones that were not there were ones containing mywaysa.
Also did not get the vmmdiag32.exe pop up on the reboot this time. Lastly here are the 2 logs that you would like to see.

OK, good work, the HJT log appears clear, but the SR log shows registry points for two other files, so lets KillBox them as well.

Use KB on the following using the same instructions please, then post back with new HJT and SR log again, thanks.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvritf.dll

Things look to be fine. No more messages on the startup. Speed seems to be fine and haven't put in any passwords or logins that my computer usually stores. Although I'm still timid to use websites such as online banking and making purchases via credit card online. Do you think things are okay to go. One last thing, since I've noticed the problems alot of files in my documents the font color has been changed from black to blue. Does this sound suspicious and do you know how to get it back or is this better suited for another area of the board? Thanks so much for all the help. And once you give me the green light a donation is definitely on the way. Merry Christmas.

Glad to hear all is well. Not sure why the font colors havhe changed, are you able to revert them back to black and have the setting stick?? Let me know, I have also asked someone else about this oddity, I know every once in while some infections do quirky things.

Aside from that your system is good to go.

We have 3 more things to do, mostly maintenance and then our recommendations:

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp folder
The app below will help with temp files.
    Index.dat Suite

Also, delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion.

Here is a link which describes how security apps work with WIN XP machines.
XP User Accts Security Apps Operation

To further prevent the installation of ad/mal/spyware, DL the apps below, which are just as good the fight against ad/mal/spyware as AdAware & Spybot S&D:

    SpywareBlaster
With SpywareBlaster v3.5.1 , just DL, install and check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using IE restricted sites protection as it's not a very large database. Use IE-SPYADs below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IESPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will accomplish a similar tactic and provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being inserted to start up on your machine install WinPatrol v10.0.5.

Another thing I would suggest, is to install SiteAdvisor. It gives sites a few different 'ratings' and while not fool proof, a good additional layer of information about many sites.

Links for tutorials for all the apps I mentioned can be found on my site as well.

Confused about which apps are good or not? Read about Rogue/Approved Anti Security apps

And just because you have security apps installed, they are useless unless updated regularly. Keep track of updates for ALL your security needs here:
    Calendar of Updates

Subscribe to update alerts for all the above security apps here.

You can also see my own ongoing security testing with all the above apps proving how securely you can safe with them installed.
