I have a WIndows Xp Pc with 384mb ram and 1.4ghz processor. I've turned off the power schemes to never, turned off hibernate and turned of the screen saver.

When someone uses the Pc after a period of time usually 1 hr or so, the system will reboot or go black and the green power light goes orange.

It doesn't matter what program a person is on, surfin, ms word, games, email, nothing, it reboots or powers off.

I have 3 profiles on this Pc and it does it for all 3.

    Any ideas...
    Help,
    Thanks,
    Bill..

Strong possibility that this behaviour is due to overheating. I suggest you do two things to start with.....

Download Everest and run it. Look under Computer > Sensor in the left pane and post the temps and voltages indicated after about 40/50 mins of use - before it shuts down/reboots :)

Open the case and look for major dust accumulations and remove them. Pay particular attention to the CPU, but under no circumstances remove the heat sink. It is OK to remove the fan and clean out between the cooling fins.

Boot up with the case open and physically check that the fans are running.
