Over the last couple of weeks I've been having some problems with Outlook 2003. One is the freezing problem someone else is having - I posted in that thread. The second is even more puzzling.

I reply to an email message, and get an error message that says:
I have all permissions for everything on this box.

I've noticed that there seems to be a second (partial) copy of my reply in the Inbox, even if the message I'm replying to is not in the Inbox folder. I have to cut the text from, then delete the reply I've just tried to send, then paste the text into the saved reply and I can send the message at that point, but this is a ridiculous way to have to do things.

I just "repaired" the installation of Outlook 2003, and the problem is still there. Short replies don't have the same issue, but ones that I spend some time on are invariably the ones that give the wonky error message.

Does anyone have an explanation for this or a solution??

On another board I belong to, one of the members listed a large number of errors and problems they are experiencing since upgrading to IE7. Would my problem result from this upgrade as well?

Try checking the properties of the these files:

    outlook.srs
    outlook.dat
    views.dat

or any others in the following location:

    \Document and Settings \ <Username> \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ Outlook

It could be these files are read-only and you need to remove that (right click the file, select Properties and make sure Read-only is not checked).

Thanks, Arie. I checked and everything looked fine. However, what I have done was change the default location for Outlook to autosave emails in progress from Inbox to Drafts. I haven't had the problem since, but it's only been a couple of days. Unless I post again to this thread you can assume that's taken care of the problem.

    Keep your fingers crossed! ;)

Hmm.. you might want to check out the permissions on the location where it was set to auto save previously...

Arie, when I'm replying to a message in the Inbox, permissions say "Unrestricted access ". That's what it's always stated (even when I was having the problem) and it's also why I couldn't figure this thing out.

Maybe Outlook wasn't doing the right thing before. When I was replying to an email, no matter which folder it was in, the draft would be saved in the Inbox during autosave. When I hit "send" I'd get the "appropriate permission" error message. I just checked the permissions for the folder I seemed to get the most error messages while replying from and the permissions there are unrestricted also. I even checked the permissions after I changed email accounts - permissions are still fine. It just doesn't make any sense. :(
