I couldn't find an answer to this on the BBS.
I have and audio file that I would like to e-mail. It is a "wave" file and is 60,783 kb in size. Obviously that is too large. I Zipped the file, but it is still 57,959 kb in size. Still too large to send. What program can I use to make this file a reasonable size to mail so people will still be able to play it.
Am I trying to do the impossible?

Probably, but then I'm not into audio and don't know how much it would compress if you converted it to, say, an MP3 file.

Could always consider sending it on a CD snail mail :)

Thanks PeteC. I converted it to and MP3 file and it is now 6,938,624 kb in size. I tried to send it and it wouldn't go. I tried again and it made it. Thanks for the advice and the very rapid reply.
This is a great board with super members!

From the original size of the file and the size after you've converted it, it appears that you've converted it at 128 kbps. Does the file have to have real good quality? If not, reduce the bit rate to 96 or 64 in the program you used to convert it. You can go as low as 8 kbps. That would reduce the size of the file considerably though it would be at the expense of losing a lot of quality. Experiment and you'll probably be able to find something that is small enough and yet acceptable as far as quality goes.

Need help with that? What program are you using to convert it to MP3?

Thanks Zander. I used a program called "SmartAudioConverter." I mailed it to myself on my other computer and it came through great. The quality is good enough that my old ears can't tell any difference. I appreciate the response.
