Windows is not reporting the right amount of memory on my system after I upgraded from 512mb to 1 GB. The POST test says 1 GB and when I look at Systen Information under Accessories it says 1 GB. But the Windows Task Manager says I still only have 512. Any ideas? :)

Try running SiSoftware Sandra in my signature. Under Windows Memory Information it should give corresponding information to what is shown in Task Manager.

If you would like to run diagnostics they are in my signature as well.

Is it 2 X 512Mb? If you have one module installed it shows 512Mb, same for the other, but if you have both installed it still shows 512Mb?

The RAM modules may be mismatched, check information in the motherboard manual about which type is suitable.

If one or both are generic types it could possibly explain it. Ideally, you should run the same brand of the same type.

Try different locations in the slots, some motherboard manuals specify specific locations (especially if they may be expected to run as dual channel).

If you can find another module to borrow, swap that with each.

This is my "hardware" view of things. What happens if you run memory intensive or several programs at once? Does there seem to be an improvement to when you had 512Mb installed (not that Task Manager may be telling falsehoods :D)?

    Thanks

Reseating the cards worked. I am puzzled by why the BIOS would see both cards and Windows only one if it was merely a seating issue. Nevertheless, I simply took them both out and replaced them back in the same slots and now windows see both. (shrug)

    Thanks for your help.

It's a new one on me too! :)
The BIOS may be able to tell it is there, Windows may not have been able to utilize it

Glad you were able to find it.
