gdh09--I find Event Viewer to often be quite helpful and even make suggestions how to determine and fix the error that is causing the shutdown.
Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer|System. Click on the red ball Error icon(s) that correspond to the time of the shutdown. You will get "some" info on the error. Allow a report to be sent to MS. Perhaps automatically or when you click on the go.microsoft link you will more details on the error.
If you need help in deciphering what the error reports say, post them here.

The thread I posted gives details of the possible locations of the dump files with a .dmp extension. Select one of those when you browse.

I don't think there will be any dumps on the system.

I suggest you download & run the ShelExView utility mentioned in my article.

If you need more help you need to post more detailed information.

There is no need to post a link - follow the advice given by Arie and quoted below - it is a question of trial and error :) ....
Non Microsoft items are shown in pink or dark pink. Click on the column header for Company to sort by Company - this will group all the MS extensions together.

Select all the coloured items, right click > disable. Then go through the actions you posted which caused Explorer to crash ....
If the functions operate without crashing Explorer you have a dodgy shell extension and you will need to enable each extension in turn until you find the one which is causing the crash.

If the same functions still cause Explorer to crash with the non-Microsoft shell extensions disabled then the problem lies elsewhere.
