    [Sample site: http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/lyrics/boomboom.htm]

    If I click on "Install missing plugins ", the Plugin Finder Service tells me I need Apple Quicktime. However, if I go to about: plugins, my Installed Plugins show three listings for QuickTime Plug-in 7.1.3 (npqtplugin3.dll, npqtplugin2.dll, npqtplugin.dll). I know I've installed the thing already - why doesn't the computer recognize this? I've 'told' NoScript to allow the site, so that shouldn't be the problem.
    (As an aside, when I'd go to a page that required Adobe Flash Player, I'd keep getting the message that I needed to install the program, even though I knew for a fact that I'd already done so - turned out I just needed to allow the site under NoScript. But Adobe Flash Player isn't a plug-in...)
    I also have the same problem with the Real Player plug-in -- it shows up on my list of plugins, but when I go to a site and click on something to listen to, I get that same ol' message that I need additional plugins!
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,

    I am sorry that I was, probably, cheating, since I use the Media Player connectivity extention, which will cause embedded media to open the player.
    But, I have no problem with any of the players which you mentioned, and don't have No Script installed. Could it be that No Script is not paying you any attention? Disable it, or uninstall it.
    By the way the link did not get me anywhere (expired link?), but I tried other video presentations?

    Rebecca I went to your lonk and it couldn't be found but a search got this link http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/musica.htm .

    I have NoScript installed and I have quicktime alternative installed. After I clicked on BOOMBoom song it gave me the lyrics and a tiny player which would not work until I allowed the site. Then it played like a broken record and kept repeating.

    I wonder if it is one of those sites that do better in IE? I think I'll give it a try....

    OK I tried in IE and it works good. BoomBoom song does not but if you select others it works fine.

    I went back to Firefox and other songs worked well.

    I don't know why your browser is not recognizing your Quicktime but maybe Ramona will come along and give you a clue..

    Good Luck.

    Thanks for the feedback, gentlemen!
    Don't know what happened with that link - it worked fine for me yesterday! In any case, I'm still looking around and experimenting, and here's another site that gives me that "additional plugins" message: http://www.geocities.com/dany_p_2000/noel.html

    Interestingly, at another site I found some sample mp3 clips of carols (http://bmarcore.club.fr/noel/P-N002.html). When I click on the 'mp3' buttons here, Quicktime's blue "Q" shows right up, and my computer promptly goes ahead and plays the clips. Is this because the computer is somehow bypassing the whole FF plug-in business and just going straight to the QuickTime program that's installed in WinXP (i.e., the QuickTime that shows up in my list of programs on the computer)?

    I may try disabling NoScript later on if I have time (I'm too deep into my sound clip "research" at the moment to want to close down all my windows/tabs!), but given that Bill is able to get QuickTime to work even with NoScript active, I don't think that's probably the issue. Maybe I should try uninstalling the QuickTime plug-in and give QuickTime Alternative a try instead... How do I go about uninstalling a plug-in? Do I just delete the three .dll's associated with QuickTime in my Program Files\ Mozilla Firefox\ plugins folder?
    Thanks,

    Rebecca,

    Using QuickTime 6.5, I was able to play the BoomBoom song, altho as Bill stated, it did repeat itself. I also had no problems with the MP3's.

    I wouldn't use both QT and QT Alternative. There is an excellent resource for QT which I will give you, and this is what I would try first:

    * Close Firefox
    * Navigate to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins\
    * Delete all of the npqtplugin.dll files: npqtplugin.dll, npqtplugin2.dll, etc.
    * Navigate to C:\Program Files\Quicktime\Plugins\
    * Delete all of the npqtplugin.dll files
    * Reset your Quicktime mime settings

    If you continue to have problems, look here:
    Quicktime Guide for Windows

    I've found that Version 6.5 works much better for me than Version 7.

    BTW, Adobe Flash Player is a plugin... ;)

    I have found that many sites do not work correctly until I allow Noscripts to either allow the site temporarily or permanently. In a way this is good because you know who is trying to send you script. Even this site(BBS) sends script which I do not allow but fortunately it works OK without the script.
    A bigger pain is Noscript with Sea Monkey. Some secure sites like banks, mutual funds do not work and even allowing scripts for that site does not seem to solve the problem unless I allow scripts globally, which is dangerous. After I get the site to work, I then forbid global scripts.
    Firefox seems to work best with Noscripts, but as I wrote earlier it is not clear how to remove Noscripts from SeaMonkey.

    There is no Uninstall of Extentions in Seamonkey, although an extention can be instaal. But, I found out that it works by deleting the specific extention folder, in your profile.If you don't have many extentions, it should be easy to do, but considering the structure in Seamonkey, you have to go slowly. You will see folders with alphanumeric description. Each folder has a file which describes the extention. In such case delete the entire folder, with SM closed, of course.

    Thanks for the link, Ramona! I followed the instructions suggested there, and removed QuickTime through Add/Remove programs under Control Panel. Double checked for any residual QuickTime .dll files in the folders as you suggested (there were none), rebooted the computer, installed QuickTime alternative, and lo and behold, not only is the 'missing plugin' message gone, some of the sites start playing music as soon as the pages are loaded (i.e., I don't even have to click on anything to hear the music!).
    Thanks so much for the help, as always!
    [Incidentally, I haven't had to 'allow' anything under NoScript, either.]
    :)
