Link won't open in OE6

When a url/link is included in the body of emails I receive I am unable to open then by simply clicking on the link. The only way to open them is to Cut and Paste and put them in Internet Explorer's Address location.

It used to work fine in OE6.... does anyone know what's gone wrong and how to correct it ?

Thanks PeteC. I tried the first link several times without any change. I was going to move on to the second link you provided but came up with this link from Google:

I don't use Office 2000 or 2003 but after I applied the first method my links work again....... just thought I'd pass this on.
