I'm working with several Windows 2000 systems that act as hosts for remote control software. The problem is that the clients using these systems are running Windows98, and not at all accustomed to workstation locking. I would like to know if anyone knows a way to disable the ability to lock a workstation. I've searched Microsoft's Knowledge Base with no luck.

    Thanks

If you don't set a screen saver with password protection, the systems won't lock.

    Somehow

Well, I haven't enabled password protection on the screensaver, but one of them managed to lock a workstation anyhow. There's also the very probable scenario of me locking them after working on them. I'm very accustomed to NT, and lock servers and workstations out of habit. If it were possible to completely disable this ability, it would be very helpful. If I could even remove the option from the ctrl+alt+del screen, that should be enough.

Not sure about only disabling "lock workstation" but you can disable the task manager so the option never comes up.

Take a look Here. They show a registry tweak to disable it for the current user. It should be possible, I imagine, to apply it to specific users so the admin account could still use it.

Or if that isn't possible, easy enough to make a batch file that would change to reg setting to allow taskmgr and another that would lock it up again so you could use the feature when needed.

Also, you didn't say what remote control package you use but some will allow you to disable the CAD feature in the remote control package.

To disable the prompt to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to log in:
    Start>Settings>Control Panel>Users and Passwords
Highlight the User Name and click over to the Advanced Tab.
At the bottom of this window there is a ceck box to enable/disable the prompt.
