I have an IBM xSeries 232 Server with following specs:

    2x PIII 1.13GHz (512KB), 512MB ECC SDRAM, 4x 18.2GB HDD, 16x DVD-ROM, Dual Ultra160 SCSI, Hot-Swap Power, 10/100 Ethernet, PCI, Tower (5x10), USB Serial/Parallel Adapter, ServeRAID 4L RAID controller card

ServeRAID BIOS, Firmware and driver ver 7.12

I am trying to install Windows 2000 Server after configuring these 4 drives in RAID-5 fashion.
My issue is: I boot from ServeRAID ver 7.12 CD and create a RAID-5 logical drive with hotspare and initialize the drives which takes about 2 hours.. After rebooting when I try to install OS, it doesn't see the logical drive I have just created and responds with message like: "No harddrive found, Windows 2000 installation can't continue. Press F3 to end the installation. "

This is my first hands-on experience with a Server and RAID controller. Before I added ServeRAID 4L RAID card, W2K installed fine. SCSI bus was connected to onboard ADAPTEC SCSI controller, W2K found the 4 SCSI drives just fine and installed OS on the first one.
What am I doing wrong? Should I maybe install OS before installing ServeRAID card and creating RAID-5?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks ...

You need to install the RAID card drivers during the Windows install. At the very beginning of the Windows install, press F6. It can be difficult to do that at the right point so as the Windows install starts, press F6 repeatedly. You should then be taken to prompt where you can install the RAID drivers.

Have a look at this Microsoft article on installing Windows 2000 server. In particular the section "Providing a Mass Storage Driver During Setup" in the part "Starting Windows 2000 Setup "

I hit F6 and asked me for the floppy for my RAID controller.. I created it from the image file win2k_xp.img from ServeRAID 4L CD and supplied it. Then it could see my logical C: drive, formatted it and copied W2K files. The rest worked like a charm..
    Thanks
