Hi, I hope that I'm not wasting anyones time . I just did a clean install of my PC. I have XP Pro. Well after doing this enough times in the past I never saw these 2 Startup Items in my Config Utility. they are ctfmon in the comand it says C:\windows\system. The other 1 is dumprep o -k the comand is %Systemroot% \system. I used the site sysinfo.org Could ctfmon be a trojan? I use AVG free and it showed a clean scan.
    Any help please,
    Thank you,Paul

Thanks Bill,,,that is a good startup tool to see whats what. I think I'm okay. Bill, I have used the Free AVG for years after troubles with 2 hogs, McAfee AV and Symantec AV . Never have had a Virus or Trojan horse with it. I use Zone Alarm
firewall and Adaware for spyware. Do you think thats okay.
Thank you again Bill for fast Reply,,

Yeah, I think you are OK.

I use Spybot S&D and AdAware Plus as on demand checkers. My AVG 7.5 Internet Security has firewall, antispyware, and anti spam running real time. I haven't had it long but seems to be OK. I do know that tech support is very fast in answering queries.

ctfmon is a process which with the most recent windows updates begins now with my system. So it's not a trojan, tho there is a way to revent it from runnning, but it's pretty invovled.

The other is part of the Windows Error Reporting tool. Typically these will be inserted to start up so you can collect the info.

    So both are no threats.

Oh great TeMerc, thanks so much for giving me peace of mind. I have done some reading and I'll just live with "ctfmon ". It is to hard to get rid of it.
You are all great, thanks so much for the help.
