    Hi,

When trying to open a windows XP file with the left mouse button the
computer tries to search for the file.

If I click on the folder with right mouse button search is at the top of the list and open is third on the list.

How do I make open move to the top of the list.

Hi, dazmac10. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

What particular file type (filename extension) are you referring to?

I'm guessing you can set the default action to "open" for particular file types as follows:

    1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer
    2. Click Tools > Folder Options > File Types tab
    3. Select your file type in the list.
    4. Click the "Advanced" button to open the "Edit File Type" window.
    5. Select "Open" in the "Actions" list.
    6. Click the "Set Default" button.
    7. Click the OK button.

Please let us know if this works or if you need further assistance.

    Thanks for all the replies

    This link fixed the problem.

I needed to get into the registry and modify a few settings.
I nearly had to reformat the computer.
