I have loaded my office 95 package onto my new computer and succesfully created some databases using access. All of a sudden(after I loaded Norton Anti-virus 2002), I can not open the access application by clicking on it. The error I get is that windows installer can not open the application - see system administrator.
I can open access up and then open the file, but why can't I open it by clicking on the file?

I assume you mean you click on a shortcut to your database and it will not open the Access program and run the DB?

If this is the case, Right click on the shortcut and look at the "Target" line. Is it the correct path to your Access Program exe?

Maybe a little more info pls...

I am not using a shortcut to access. I am double clicking directly on the db file to open it.

    Woody -

The fact that you can open Access and then open a dB from within the program indicates that Access is alive and well.

The fact that you cannot open Access by clicking on a dB makes me think that the file association has gone bad for some reason so that Windows no longer knows what application to use for a file with that extension.

Try re-establishing the association. Open Windows Explorer. Locate an access dB and highlight it. Then hold down the SHIFT key and right-click on the file. You should get an option to "open with ".

Pick that and when the list opens up, pick Access and make sure to check the box for "always use ..." if it isn't already checked.

I think that should do it for you. My instructions may not be 100% accurate since I haven't messed with Win9x for a while and NT systems do it differently (and lots easier).
