    Hello,
I have been running without problems for so long that I have forgotten how to do just about everything!

My wife's PC (4-yr old Dell w/Windows ME) has been running just great. We have SBC (AT&T) DSL, and have not had a problem in ages.

While away for the weekend, we had a power failure. When I tried to restart it, I had to try it three times before it finally started. Then, a small window popped up saying something like "your PC has refused to start after power savings. - or something like that - Do you want to prevent this from happening? And I answered Yes.

Anyway, everything seems to run fine, but no internet connection.

When pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del I noticed that only five programs are running, and there used to be six, but I can't remember the one that is missing.

The ones that are running are Explorer, Ctfmon, Directcd (I use this), Systray, and Mdm. Perhpas the missing program is what I need to get the internet connection started?

System: Dell PC > Linksys router > DSL modem
    Control Panel/Network/Configuration: Client for Microsoft Networks, D-Link DFE-530TX+PCI Adapter, Dial-Up Adpater, TCP/IP>D-Link DFE-530TX+PCI Adpater, TCP/IP>DialUp Adapter

(Edited to add) Also, I noticed that the small LEDs next to the network jack on the PC, which normally are lit, are off. In other words, there is just no connection?

What other information may I provide so you can help me?

    Thanks!

    Alex

re wont connect to the internet

im going to take a guess that when the power came back on it might have caused a power surge and messed something up. are you on dialup or a highspeed program? if on highspeed the modem you get from the cable co might be damaged. i would check out that possiblity or check with whoever you get the dialup connection from. hope this helps. also if you dont have your computer plugged into a surge protector you might want to buy one for next time.
