Everyone's talking about activating Windows XP, and I wasn't asked to do the actavation at all. I booted from the installation cd and XP installed itself on an own partition. I only had to enter the serial number of my copy (like at previous versions of Windows). I'd like to stress that my copy of XP is legal and obtained from my boss :)

Did he get it from the company he works for?

I know someone who works for the local University and they got a license to sell copies of XP to employees with no activation in them.

Just my experience, maybe someone else has a better explanation.

What you have is a corporate activated version of XP Pro. The product key will be the same on all the XP Pro CD's your "Boss" has. The product been pre activated for the all the CD's licensed to the company.

yeah, i know what your talking about, we can prob. confirm this with the type of CD he has....The corproate versions dont force an activation, but depending on how many computers you are "purchasing" it for, it can be reallly $$$ :)
