    Hello - Ramona and all,
Well, I did it again!!! I d/l sage for FF 1.5.8. Worst thing I ever DID!!!
It has completely trashed FF!! No address bar, no google, I've deleted it from extensions, it's still there! I can't get rid of it@#%@!% and then some!
Nasty little program!! I didn't need it anyway, I have same thing in TB for RSS.
I've d/l FF 2.0 and will install it, but I've forgotten what Ramona said about this step...I can't seem to find it in NS solutions...Is it OK to install over 1.5.8 or do I need to Uninstall from ADD/Remove area??
One thing that's always confused me....In explorer where one finds the profiles, I've TWO??? I think it's the hold over from old NS 7.0 - I've never deleted it...NS profile is dmblk10.slt or similar....FF is default.psd...right?? I'm not sure about this anymore....
But, I've got to do something....FF is "sick" takes too long to open then nothing is as it should be....
    Thanks .. All for help.

    John,
I wish I knew what you did, as I never had a problem with Firefox. In fact, I got three of them. 1.5.0.8, 2.0 and 3.0a1, all in different folders, and running with their own profile.
As for the profile(s), I don't know how you looked for them, but they have different names, and are in different folders. The Netscape folder should be in the Mozilla|Profiles folder, and has an alphanumeric designation, followed by .slt.
The Firefox profiles are in Mozilla|Firefox|Profiles folder, have the same type of alphanumeric designation.name. So if the Netscape default profile is aq3ec7.slt, the Firefox would be aq3ec7.default. I don't know about .psd.
It is likely that your profile is fouled up and more. Installing 2.0 would do no good if you try to pick up the same profile. In my experience, 1.5.0.8 has been extremely stable, and anything as drastic as described suggests some icorrect handling. What do you mean by I've deleted it from extensions, it's still there! ?

    Strange FF 2.0

    Good Morning - All,
Well, I did install FF 2.0, it ran fine - but - I have no address bar area....All info. that was there in 1.5.8 is gone?? I have on top - file, edit view, history, bkmks, tools, help, and delicious....Below that line - ff help, support, FAQ plug-inHelp, then various bookmarks....Below that - my Robo form installation.
The throbber for FF when it's working is grayed out!!
For about 2 wks. I've been getting the error upon closing down "xpcom:event receiver" That appears to be FF related but little info. on the error? Any suggestions?
That was the main reason for installing FF2.0, thinking something was corrupt with FF 1.5.8!! Obviously, there is something wrong!!

In previous post, I referred to extensions/add-ons, Sage.....That nasty program really corrupted ff 1.5.8...It destroyed the address bar, also and made FF run very slow..
    Appreciate any info?
    Thanks / John in Dallas

Did you un-install FF then install 2.0?

Sounds like your profile is messed up. You might try a fresh on just for drill.

Also you should start FF in safe mode just to see if one of your extensions is causing the problem. ( Start>Programs>Mozilla Firefox> (safe mode)).

Right click on the toolbar and click customize and see if the address bar is in the customize box. If so you just drag it to the toolbar and drop it.

    Thanks Bmoore,
I just found something even more strange? I checked in Admin. mode and FF2.0 is working fine....Address bar and all info there....
But, in limited user mode - nothing!?
What do you mean by "fresh on just for drill??" You mean fresh install?
I tried to run in safe mode but no address bar appeared.
Yes, I did uninstall FF 1.5.8 before installing FF 2. I don't use extensions/add-ons....except Noscript, Del-icio.us, robo form,,,,they all work fine...
Really weird how the Sage program broke FF 1.5.8.
    Thanks for help out there..

I meant fresh one, just for drill.

I mean make a new profile and see if it displays with no problems. I have had the profile messed up before where my customizations would not hold until I made a new profile.

    John,

When in Safe Mode, did you try adding the extensions one by one to see whether or not one of them caused the problem?

Are you still receiving this error? FYI, a bug has been filed:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=309150

    firefox 2.0 cont'd

    Hi--Ramona and all,
I've un-installed FF2 and reinstalled. Does run but very slowly and refuses to open normally, I'm in safe mode now!!
All extensions are disabled. I DON'T now how to build a profile, since I've never done so!! Help section does not tell me how??
Fact I had no address bar in limited user mode? Wasn't turned on in view section?
I installed FF2 on my 2nd HD,,,,worked perfectly....Therefore, something must be corrupted in my profile on C drive in limited user mode (which is where I do all my work) FF2 works just fine when running in admin. mode, but for obvious security reasons, I don't work there....
I need help in this profile "thing" - what to do next....
    Thanks All for help.

    John,

This link will show you screen shots of how to create a Firefox Profile:
    http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#new

Once you have created the new Profile, ensure that Firefox is closed
Open Windows Explorer and then copy these files from your OLD profile and place them in your NEW profile. Let them replace the existing files:

    bookmarks.html
    cert8.db
    cookies.txt
    hostperm.1
    key3.db
    mimetypes.rdf
    persdict.dat
    signons.txt

Let us know if you have questions...

    Hi-Ramona - All,
Well, I've been "banging" all DAY on FF2! It seems NOscript was the culprit!!
After running in safe mode, it worked fine. Now I'm running in limited user mode most of the day, all seems to work?? Go figure??
Thank God it wasn't robo form....I couldn't function without that program, it's the most useful I've ever found!!
After repeated starts and stops...FF2 comes up and seems very quick and
    stable...Really like the X for closing tabs...Great...
Keep the faith, I don't mess up something else...<g>
    So far - so GOOD...
Thanks everyone for your help and enjoy the special season approaching..
    John in Dallas.
