I am a single user of a desktop computer with Windows XP Home Edition and IE 7 (which I recently successfully installed). However, now when I go to Internet Options and click the Security tab I get a yellow highlighted message that reads: "Some settings are managed by your system administrator ". And therefore, I cannot change any settings.

I didn't have this problem with IE 6. How can I change this so I can change the settings?

Under User Accounts, I am listed as the Computer Administrator, so do not understand why that message should appear.

Unfortunately I can find nothing relevant on Google wrt your problem and have edited your thread title to highlight the problem.

If you were running Pro I would have had one suggestion at least :) This may be a permissions problem - easy to check and resolve in Pro, Home is a different matter.

Hopefully some one else can provide an answer.

Ok, I had a look at gpedit (XP Home doesn't have it) and this is what I've come up with. There's three settings in gpedit that I can find related to security settings in IE and these are the keys each of them write to.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects\{3ED0CA51-4488-47B2-ACD3-E8A70E98B0FF}Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

If you are comfortable editing the registry, have a look at each of those keys for any values named any of the following.

    "Security_options_edit "
    "Security_HKLM_only "
    "Security_zones_map_edit "

If you see any of these in either of those two keys and the data value is set to one, double click on the name and then change the 1 to a zero. Then check in IE and see if the highlighted message is gone.
