First of all, sound is enabled on my computer, whether it's system sounds or cd's or sound files of any nature, including midi files. When I migrated to this computer I transferred my music collection to my second hard drive. However, when I compose a message in Outlook Express 6 and attach a midi file to the message (Format>Background>Sound>Browse to midi file>Open) no sound is actually heard in the message. If I attach any other sound, eg. a system sound like the Logon sound, it attaches and sounds perfectly. I'm wondering why my midi files won't sound in the message. They worked perfectly on my old computer. Would anyone have any solution to this problem, please.

    Thank you.

Problem solved! I found the answer from a helpful guy, Mike Santovec http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/, on the Microsoft Community site, after I sent him a copy of a message I composed with a midi file background:

"I found the problem. The volume for the background sound was set to -9640 which is essentially off. The volume setting ranges from -10000 to 0 with -10000 being off and 0 being full volume.

OE doesn't let you explicitly set the volume for the sound. Instead it picks up the current volume setting. So before you insert the background sound you need to make sure your volume setting is correct. Double click the speaker icon on your task bar. For a MIDI file it will use the volume control labeled "SW Synth" or something similar. It may vary depending on your sound card. "

I followed his instructions and now all is well :)

Thanks for the update - the problem clearly foxed everyone else on the Board :)
