hello all,

for the past several months i have been unable to download any updates from microsoft. I am running xp, and I have 8 updates that need to be installed. No further updates will install until i get these out of the way, and every time i try to do the install they fail. Also, when i am shutting down my computer they are failing. I looked in the msupdate log and found the following. I also tried dis-abling my anti-virus software, and firewall and the updates still failed. Here is what i see in the log:
I have tried all of the microsoft recommendations and i still cant download the updates. This is the strangest thing. I have cleaned out the wutemp file - I have renamed the system32/catroot2 folder, etc. ect.

Hi, gartie.

I'm glad you're back up and running your Automatic Updates service again. :)

Thanks for your follow-up. It could prove helpful for someone else that runs across this thread with a similar problem.

BTW, for those people who have a similar problem and might run across this thread, gartie is referring to Windows "Services" acccessible as follows:

• Click Start > Run...
• Type services.msc in the "Open:" field.
• Click the OK button.

Caution: Do not perform "Services" modifications unless you know what you're doing. You can make your computer unstable or perhaps even unbootable.
