Hi, XTC. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

I'm guessing you are describing the "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD).

Please carefully follow the instructions in the following link:

Dump Data collection tool and instructions

After following those directions, if you post your DebugWiz dump data here, then we might be able to help you identify the cause of your BSOD and suggest a possible fix.

put any error u get in google and u'll find LOTS of info w/o having to wait for an answer ;) ... this is a fairly common problem

and if u want specifics u should name the names mostly. what system make/model etc.

    Hi, XTC.

Thanks for posting your BSOD dump data info.

While I don't claim to be an expert :( regarding BSOD dump analysis, according to this 4-page article, Network World: "How to solve Windows system crashes in minutes" (specifically the last paragraph of page 3 and all of page 4), it appears your BSOD problem might be caused by mshtml.dll.

I Googled mshtml.dll and found the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article that might help you resolve your problem.

Please let us know if Microsoft's "RESOLUTION" works or not.

EDIT: The Microsoft KB article I linked above appears to apply only to Windows Millenium Edition (according to Microsoft anyway) so it might not be appropriate for your computer.

I noticed your dump data analysis is dated October 17. Do you have any newer BSOD MiniDumps? If so, please post dump data for those here as well. We might be able to recognize a pattern.

All that might be necessary is installing or reinstalling the latest version of Internet Explorer (since the process involved in the BSOD dump data you posted is iexplore.exe).

I just noticed that part of your dump data. According to this link, that is probably not BSOD dump data. It is probably program crash data (which may still be helpful).

Please have a look in the following locations for dump data files that are usually associated with BSODs and use DebugWiz to analyze them and post their dump data if they exist.
    • C:\MEMORY.DMP or (for Mini-dumps) in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\

    Hi, XTC.

    Thanks for following up! :)

I'm curious. What startup program was it that was apparently causing your trouble?

Not a problem. :) Perhaps a legitimate filename and/or the file, itself, was corrupted.

Perhaps it's still listed in your msconfig (only unchecked). Did you look there?

Sometimes a Google search for strange filenames/applications brings up interesting results (perhaps even if the filename characters are garbage).

I don't know offhand how easy it would be to copy/paste the msconfig entry somehow anyway, so please don't sweat any time over it if there isn't a quick way.

I am sorry to just jump into this thread.

This debug log indicates a hardware problem. If this is an issue that has never happened again, then nothing needs to be done. If this is a regular problem, then a test of RAM would be the first step. A check of processor temperatures should also be done. And as a third step be sure your computer BIOS is up to date:
Hopefully it is just bad, misconfigured, overclocked or mismatched RAM. Please do an extended test using the 'T' option with this utility: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
