Download the Basic without Toolbars version of CCleaner:
    http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp

Run the program. Under the tab 'Windows' uncheck the Headings Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and Advanced. Leave System checked as well as all options under System.

Click the Applications tab. Clear all entries.
Click the Issues button. Clear the heading Registry Integrity. Clear the heading FIle Integrity.

Click the 'Cleaner' broom icon. Click the Run Cleaner at bottom right.
    Your settings will be saved.

Arie--In the first image of your link,
    http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-16.html
you show check marks next to Indexing Services and Internet Explorer. Were you recommending that as settings before clicking OK? (I recognize that in the case of IE this only removes shortcuts from Desktop and Start.)
And in the case of Fax and Accessories, would not the check mean to install them?
