    Hi.
My son has a basic e-tower633cd with a 40gb hdd and 192mb pc133 sdram and has reciently used his recovery cd to reboot his pc back to original settings which he had when he first bought it due to it building up too much junk over time.

The problem is that when he installs his mp3 player it isnt in the "my computer" section but is down at the bottom beside the clock.

When you click on the icon beside the clock it only gives the option to uninstall the mp3 player.

He has just moved house and will not be getting online for a while and wanted to use the pc for storing his music and transfering it to his mp3.

I took my ericson w550i phone along to try (as it has a mp3 built in), the exact thing happened when i pluged it into the usb port and i tried using the other usb port aswell... without success.

Any ideas wouuld be appreciated that might help get the pc to recognise when something connects to the system and shows it in the "my computer " section

    MANY THANKS:)

    IAN

PS... I FORGOT TO MENTION HE IS ON WINDOWS M.E ( JUST INCASE ITS IMPORTANT )

I suggest looking for an update of the chipset drivers (first try the Emachine website, they usually have Intel chipsets though).

If updating those drivers does not work, try uninstalling the "controllers" listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager. They will be automatically reinstalled when you reboot. It may also have some relationship to the IDE controllers, so try uninstalling those (Hard Disk Controllers), again, they will be automatically reinstalled.

 thanks for the advice mattman.
as his pc isnt online at present... will i be able to download them onto my pc and put them on cd for to take to his pc and install ?.

i will have a look in the e-machine website.

i will re-install the drivers for the usb ports ( when i find how to do it....lol), i get lost when messing arround in windows ME as im on XP home.

there wasnt any problem with the usb ports in the past ( before i re-installed windows from recovery cd ) .

do you think there would be anything else i should put on cd to install from websites that might be related to this?.

    thanks for your time

Yes, just choose "Save to disk" and make a note of where it is saved, then burn the file to disk.
I think Emachines have improved their support. Let's just say they were not renowned for it in the past (tip: search for an "Unofficial Emachine website" if you have trouble).
On all versions of Windows, right-click on My Computer and select Properties, you will find Device Manager. The same way to get there is to go to System in Control Panel. (Or, go to Start -> Help [Help and Support in ME I think], search for Device Manager).
...navigating is fun isn't it? :D
I would expect so, but "bugs" can creep in. Can you test any other USB devices?
Updated drivers are beneficial if you seem to have a problem. Look at the FAQs at both the Emachine's and the MP3's websites. I have seen FAQs relating to problems I never thought could have existed.

    cheers matt.

Will need to wait till i have been along to their house in order to get the serial number and any other details i might need before contacting emachines.
I noticed they dont have this model ( i think they only list the us/canada models) so i better get all the details i can and be prepaired.
Will also have a look for other sites.

I will take along my webcam with the instalation disc and see if it finds that.

    Fingers crossed
