    I have tried using sfc/ scannow since this problem had been in the forums, but I do not have a Windows CD, only a reinstallation DVD, and Dell won't answer me or tell me how to fix it, I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem without a windows disc?

    This is a little tricky, and may require two steps.
    Let's start with Step #1. Using your mouse highlight the contents of the box below and right click, Copy:
    Open a new Notepad session and right click, Paste the above.
    Do a File, Save as, C:\step1.cmd

    Then do a Start, Run, C:\step1.cmd

    Ignore any error messages. Agree to any requests to register a DLL.
    When done, reboot and test.
    You might need a Step #2 depending on various things.

    Nothing changed, so I guess step 2 is necessary.

    Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{}

    what does the {} mean, does it mean like every single registry that starts with { and ends with } because I have about 100 of those, and where is the "DisplayIcon" ?

    Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

    Click on the + beside Uninstall and a "ton" of keys will open that start/end with {}, such as {0609D0AF-1382-42BE-81DB-CF30F8B0F6E2}

    Click on the first one,and in the right window look for a field called DisplayIcon. If it is there, check if it contains a negative number.
    If not, use the down arrow to move to the next one and do the same thing.

    Do this for all the {} keys.

    I checked all of the keys and none of them had a negative number.

    Is there any way I could fix this? I really don't know what's wrong.

    Try comparing what you find in the Uninstall key to what is listed in the Add/Remove program. I once had a program, Ringtone Ripper, that was listed in the registry key and not in A/R. I had the black lines until I removed that program. I installed the program and the black lines came back. It may be worth a try.
