When I find items in google and click on the link I get redirected to any old site, monstermarketplace is a favourite but there are lots of others. If i return to the original link a few times eventually it works. It is extremely frustrating. I found a couple of threads on your forum describing similar problems. I ran a hijack this but didn't see the same problem files that were causing their problems. Additionally some sites do not work propoerly for me for example my bank site login button seems to have the button command typed outside the button and as a result clicking on the button just shows a flashing type cursor. this occured at the same time as the first problem so I assume it is linked. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. My hijack this file is below.

Hello and welcome to WindowsBBS Forums.

Below you will find my results and recommendations from your HijackThis! log file analysis. Please read ALL instructions carefully BEFORE proceeding.

Please follow these instructions, exactly, for proper HJT installation. Please place HJT into ITS OWN PERMANANT FOLDER. It also needs to be removed from the desktop.

You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe)Move HijackThis.exe into this folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

Lets get a couple of online scans first, then we'll fix things with HJT.

Before running these scans, be sure the following process is not running:
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\ICSUPP95.EXE<<<<---if so, then please use task manager to kill it\end task, then proceed with scans.

    Panda ActiveScan
    • Click the 'Scan your PC' button. ( You may have to disable any pop up blockers)
    • Then press the green 'Check Now' button.
    • Enter your country and state along with a valid email address.
    • Allow the ActiveX install, it may be a few minutes for all components. (For XP SP 2 watch for the yellow bar at the top of IE)
    • Once installation is complete you will need to select a device to scan. Please select 'My Computer' and the scan will begin.
    • Once the scan is done, click the 'See report' button, then the 'save report' button. Be sure to save the log file created in a place easy for you to find.
(Please edit out any cookie, Recyler and System Volume Information Folder references from the Panda log, thanks)

    Trend Microâ„¢ HouseCall Scan
    • Click Scan now. It's free!
    • Read and put a Check next to Yes I accept the terms of use.
    • Click the Launching HouseCall>> button.
    • If confirmed that HouseCall can run on your system, under Using Java-based HouseCall kernel click the Starting HouseCall>> button.
    • You may receive a Security Warning about the TrendMicro Java applet, click YES.
    • Under Scan complete computer for malware, grayware, and vulnerabilities click the Next>> button.
    • Please be patient while it installs, updates, and scans your system.
    • Once the scan is complete, it will take you to the summary page.
    • Under Cleanup options, choose clean all detected infections automatically.
    • Click the Clean now>> button.
    • If anything was found you may be prompted to run the scan again, you can just close the browser window.

Run Hijackthis and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes next to them and press the "Fix Checked" button with HijackThis. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, or other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:
    Turn on your computer.
Hold down the <Ctrl> key until the Microsoft Windows Millennium Startup Menu appears.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode, then press the <Enter> key.

Also, enable the 'Show Hidden Folders' option, like this:
    Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.
Click Start, Programs and Accessories and open Windows Explorer.
Select a hard drive from the left hand side of the Windows Explorer window.
Select View the Entire contents of this drive.

And search for, then delete, if found, the following files/folders(some may not be present after previous steps):
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ipv6monr.dll<<<--this one

Empty your Temp folders as follows:
Open Internet Explorer. You'll get a Page not Found error, but that's normal in safe mode.
At the top, click Tools>Internet Options> and then, in the center click Delete Cookies
Click Delete Files and then in the new applet check the box for all offline content
    Click OK
Close that applet and open the C>Windows>Temp folder, and delete all files in there too, and all files in sub-folders of Temp.
Note: If you cannot delete them all at once because you have too many, then click and hold ctrl and highlight a batch of them at a time. Once highlighted, R-click over the highlight and select delete. Repeat until folder is empty
Double check to see if the folder C:\DOCUMENTSandSETTINGS\YOUR NAME\LOCALSETTINGS\Temp is empty.

To exit Safe Mode, click the Start button, click Shutdown, click Restart The Computer, and click Yes.

Post a new HJT log back into this thread please.

Couldn't get Panda activision to work at all - it installed activex and then just sat there didn't give me any options to do anything.
Got House call to work after installing Java although it took about 4hours for a scan but it did find 1 infection and said it fixed it.
Proceeded with deleting the files you mentioned and have posted the latest HJT log below.

Anyway good news is that the problem seems to be sorted now. Not sure what bit sorted it but links on the internet now seem to be going where they are supposed to go. So many many thanks for your help.

OK, everything is looking good from this side of the screen, are things working as they should be? Let me know please.

Now our recommendations for ongoing safe, secure surfing.

We have 3 more things to do, to help ensure you have removed all the little 'leftovers' which may be hiding:

Empty the TIF (Temporary Internet Files)
Delete all the files in (and any subfolders of) the C:\Windows\Temp folder
The app below will help with temp files.
    Index.dat Suite

Also, delete all your cookies, and empty your recycle bin. But remember, by deleting your cookies, you will have to re-enter any passwords and log-in info for any sites you are usually required to do so with.

This would also be a good time to set a new system restore point for your machine.
Set New System Restore Point. Do not do this unless there are no other user accounts to be diagnosed.

Also, as you are an XP user, if there are any other accounts on this machine, they too, must be cleaned with AdAware, Spybot S&D, then HJT. Not all infections are global, nor are all the HJT fixes global. You can post each user account here into this thread, but please, do only one at a time to avoid confusion.

Here is a link which describes how security apps work with WIN XP machines.
XP User Accts Security Apps Operation

To further prevent the installation of ad/mal/spyware, DL the apps below, which are just as good the fight against ad/mal/spyware as AdAware & Spybot S&D:

    SpywareBlaster
With SpywareBlaster v3.5.1 , just DL, install and check for updates, enable Internet Explorer protection, and your done! I don't recommend using IE restricted sites protection as it's not a very large database. Use IE-SPYADs below.

To avoid known malware infested sites from loading in IE install IESPY ADS.
And MVPS Hosts File will accomplish a similar tactic and provide another layer of protection.

And to prevent unknown applications from being inserted to start up on your machine install WinPatrol v10.0.5.

Another thing I would suggest, is to install SiteAdvisor. It gives sites a few different 'ratings' and while not fool proof, a good additional layer of information about many sites.

Links for tutorials for all the apps I mentioned can be found on my site as well.

Confused about which apps are good or not? Read about Rogue/Approved Anti Security apps

And just because you have security apps installed, they are useless unless updated regularly. Keep track of updates for ALL your security needs here:
    Calendar of Updates

Subscribe to update alerts for all the above security apps here.

You can also see my own ongoing security testing with all the above apps proving how securely you can safe with them installed.

    Happy surfing!!
