    What program generates the thumbnails?
The default would be MS Paint.
If Office is installed, this can change to MS Photo and Print.
If Photoshop is installed, it can take over the chore.

    ..etc..

So when you bring the thumbnail over, the Viewer program is not the same as on your computer.

No, that was not what I was think of.

What you need is to have the same thumbnail creator, and same thumbnail vewer on both computers. This would be in addition to what you have now.

Irfanview is terrific freeware. By installing in both locations you can use it on both computers to view thumbnails.

Play with it. If you do not like it, remove it.

Try File, Thumnails when in a directory.
Use Options, File Extensions to set assignments.

I have IrfanView installed on both computers.
What do you mean by this part?

    From Irfanview:

File, then choose the Thumbnail selection.
This will generate Thumbnails in the directory you have open.

    Options, File Extensions.
This allows you to set file associations you want Irfanview to handle.
