I found a folder named this in my C:\Doc and Sett\My Name

    .housecall6.6

i check for spyware/adware once or twice a week and i have an active virus/firewall software that supposedly has a spyware and adware blocker in it.

i have a habit of leaving my computer on. but, the other day when i woke up it was incredibly slow, wouldnt open minimized windows, etc. the only thing i could do was hold the power button down and turn it off (not shut down windows properly).

    PLEASE HELP!!

HouseCall by MicroTrend is an On-Line virus/malware scanning site. It creates files and folder like you posted.

The folder should have a "create date. "

You can, but whether it would correct your problem is debatable.

Has your problem been resolved or are you still facing the same problem?

Which is the exact path to the folder? (I can't find anything on my system resembling "your" folder but the use of Ghost may have removed it.)

If it is Housecall, you should have C:\Windows\AU_Backup ... \AU_Log ... \AU_Temp as well (I think).

    the folder is in there

Yes, I am still facing the problem of my computer running extremely slow after it has been on for a while and the spyware/adware scans say my computer is clean and there is no viruses or trojans when i run a scan

Try booting to safemode and see if it's still slow there. Then let us know what you find. If this just started happening recently, have you considered system restore?

Ok, we would presume that there are no viruses or any other bad thing on your computer. Just do the following:

    a) Remove your computer from internet
    b) Run chkdsk [log in as Administrator->My Computer->right click on c:->Properties->Tools->Check disk for Errorrs->Automatically fix errors.->ok. The system would ask whether you want to run chkdsk on reboot, click yes & reboot]
    c) If chkdsk does not run on reboot -> login as Administrator -> goto cmd prompt -> type "fsutil dirty set c: ". Reboot
    d) Remove all temp files
    e) Check the space on your hard disk. If its less than 10 mb, Windows would slow down to a crawl

    Report back.

i am at school now doing homework. when i get home this evening i will try this and do it then and let you know.

if i reboot in safemode tho, should i leave it on over night and see if it slows down then?

also, you said if my hard disk is under 10mb. i am using 44.7 GB of 84.7 GB and I have 39.9 GB free. that should be more then enough free space

I went google on .housecall6.6 and a lot of HiJackThis logs included that folder with a path corresponding to yours but no one seems to worry about it.

It can't hurt to try it. That said, my guess is that if it boots to normal mode and is slow immediately, but it runs normally in safemode, leaving it on overnight won't cause it to slow down. But, as I said, it can't hurt to let it run.

Don't forget about system restore. It could save you a lot of headaches if it works.

One more thought. Do you have your antivirus set to update automatically? If so, when does it do it? There have been av updates that have caused problems for others in the past. You might try disabling your antivirus in normal mode and see if it makes any difference.

One more thought. While running in normal mode, open task manager and watch the cpu column to find out which program is using up your cpu.
