Pipas.A won't stay dead

Spybot scans show a Pipas.A infection. Spybot will kill it, but it keeps coming back. Something is recreating it. NAV scans don't see it, and Symantec's on-line list doesn't even contain it. How can we put a stop to this pest once and for all?

All my malware programs are up to date, and recent scans don't reveal anything suspicious other than what I just described. Details of my system are in signature, below.

 

This finding by Spybot appears to be a WareOut infection. Can you please run HJT and pos a log, thanks. Install as instructed below.

DL the zip file to your desktop, then create a new folder on your C drive, called 'HJT' or 'HijackThis'. Then unzip the files to the new folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

Run the program, and press Scan. You will notice the Scan button will turn into a "Save Log" button. Save the log and Post that log onto this topic. DO NOT DELETE or modify anything yet, as some of it is needed to keep your system in proper working order.

OK, not seeing anything but running the tool won't hurt.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
Subratam
Bleeping Computing

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once rebooted please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log file into this thread.
If you get a file output similar to below:

TeMerc: When I rebooted after starting the FixWareout scxrip, I got an unexpected surprise. A NAV "Malicious script detected window" opened. I selected "Allow the entire script once" option, and it ran OK without blowing up my system. Anyway, here's the report:

Well, kudos to the Spybot team. they may not be able to remove Wareout, but they sure know when it's there!!

Lets proceed.

Reboot, into safe mode, this way:
Turn on the computer
Immediately begin tapping the <F8> key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the <Enter> key.

Also, enable the 'Show Hidden Folders' option, like this:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

And search for, then delete, if found, (some may not be present after previous steps) the following files/folders:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CSFFT.EXE <<<--this file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMWGI.EXE <<<--this file

While still in 'Safe Mode', run HJT, and place a check next to the following lines, then, with all browsers and windows closed, hit 'Fix checked':

TeMerc: Did the remaining fixes. Most everything seems OK now except for one frustrating issue I started a thread for yesterday in the Windows XP forum. I can't get the desired setting for the one of the toolbars in Windows Explorer to stick. Some good minds in that forum have offered suggestions, but so far nothing has worked. I was hoping this Pipas.A job would somehow sort that out, but it doesn't seem to have. Any ideas? And it seems that during boot up the Desktop icons take longer to settle down than they did recently. In any case, thanks for your help on this latest issue. Good job.

BTW, should I delete the FixWareout and AVG folders?

Keep the AVG AntiSpyware, it makes a great stand alone scanner. Just be sure to update it each and every time you use it, it updates pretty much every day and in many cases more than once.

FixWareout can be deleted.
