    Hi.

I'm having a little problem here. I recently had to reboot my computer and when I reinstalled Windows XP SP2 back onto my computer I've been having problems with MSN. My Calendar no longer loads, My email and other preference settings no longer show up at all. The pages just come up blank. I can't seem to do anything with it.

Has anyone had this problem before? And how did you solve it. Rebooting the computer and reinstalling the software doesn't work. Nor does just uninstalling and reinstalling. Any advice would be great.

    Thanks!

    Hi Hazee and welcome,

Unfortunately you have probably lost all of your personal settings and if you have no backup copy of them, you're going to have to start from scratch to re-establish the settings.

I think you may be mis-using the term "reboot" since rebooting only involves exiting the Windows Graphic User interface and allowing it to reload.

On the other hand, "Reinstalling Windows" is a completely different process whereby you replace the Windows system files, either completely or partially, depending on what type of reinstall you choose. If you choose to do a completely clean reinstall, you will lose all of your personal settings. I suspect that is what you have done.

Thanks for your reply! Well I had a problem where I couldn't enter windows at all and I had to reinstall the factory software from the four discs that came with my laptop. Everything worked perfectly fine until I installed SP2 back onto my computer from the SP2 CD. When I uninstall it, everything works fine again. I've uninstalled SP2 in the past and never had this problem.

That tells the tale. Those restore disks contain an image of the original hard drive so your personal files and settings wouldn't of course be on it.

As for installing SP2 and having it cause some problem, that is a different matter alltogether. It has happened to others and can usually be straightened out. I always advise doing the SP2 install while booted to Safe Mode for the smoothest possible installation. Try that if you want and if you then have specific issues, post back what they are and perhaps some of the crew here can assist.

Thanks. I'll try reinstalling SP2 and boot in Safe Mode to see what happens but I'll have to do it later. Funny thing is that my MSN features like Calendar, email settings et al work perfectly in Internet Explorer just not in MSN. I didn't lose any of my Windows settings. The problem is only in MSN alone.

Thanks for the advice and I'll see what happens :)

    Hi,

It didn't work but I've located the problem. It's with MSN 9. Everything works fine when I use "Windows Live" features, so I have to upgrade to Windows Live. I don't know why everythingis screwy now but oh well.

    Thanks!
