Installed IE 7 and everything works fine except that I like to have my surfing history shown on the left. It is not on the Explorer bar and can only appear if you click on view Exlorer Bar then History.

It is not on the menu bar list. How can I get it to appear somewhere on a bar so that I can click on it at anytime? And that it stays there until I click on the Full Screen icon. Right now if I have history displayed and click on the full screen icon or x History it does not reappear unless I go through the above process.

I hope the forum understands this problem. In other words, I would like IE 7 to work just like IE 6 did with History on the menu bar.

    Thanks for any reply.

I am running XP in Classic Mode so what I see may be slightly different from that which you see ....

Click on Favourites Centre or Alt+C - the Favourites/Feeds/History window appears. Click on the button at the right end of that windows menu bar (tool tip - 'Pin the favourites centre') and you are back with the IE 6 arrangement.
    It should stick.

Thanks for replying. Your method is a way of accessing History. Also it can be accessed by clicking on Tools,Toolbars and then History. I want it to show History when it is not in the full screen mode only. Right now, that is the only way it works.

Perhaps I will have to settle for that. I am not in Classic Mode.

How can I Pin the History to the Tool Bar or Menu Bar and make it work like IE 6?

I am a 73 yr. old retired guy who is not a computer whiz.

Sussex138--Control+H will open the History panel directly. If you want to pin it, click the green arrow at the top right of the panel. If you want to open it "pinned" Control+Shift+H.
But I do not think there is a way to get History back on the IE7 Toolbars.

    P.S.--
    ???
I have no Toolbars option when I click IE Tools. I do have Toolbars when I click IE View, but no History option.

You have to click View then Explorer Bar and then History. Which I have done. (Perhaps you have learned something?)

I would like it to stay there unless I click on full screen and come back after I close full screen. (The - button, upper right). But it doesn't do that.

Whatever, I think I will go eat worms. LOL

I meant to say click on tools on the tool bar (lower right). It is accessable that way also.

    To J D Pieper

You have my sympathy. Perhaps we will get the problem resolved in this forum (which, by the way is an excellent forum),

Sussex138 and J D PEIPER (Welcome to the Board :))

Can we review the situation as I understand it ....

If you click on Tools on the Command Bar > Toolbars > History you are both saying that the History toolbar - window on the LHS of the screen does not come up - as shown in my screenshot in my last post?

    On my system ....

Toggling F11 to full screen and back does not lose the history pane, nor does opening and closing IE.

Yes, but it does not give me full screen without the history when I click on full screen.

Guess I can live with it.

    everything but the kitchen sink

    HI Pete,

I was typing a reply and suddenly lost the whole thing and so doing over. Sure hope I'm not posting 2wice.
OK, What I was saying is, I can see the following items on the tool bar.
File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools and Help. That's it. No History. Which I can live with.

I have an unrelated question but don't know where to go to ask. Having a bit of a problem with FAQs because there isn't anything I can find that relates to what I need to ask. Any advice? Much Thanks.

It works the same as it did in IE 6 - I have just checked it out on my old laptop which still has IE 6 loaded. The History (or Favourites) pane does not disappear when you go to full screen.

I needed to check as I never use full screen :)

If I understand you correctly ....
you are referring to the Menu Bar immediately below the Address Bar.

I cannot remember if Tools appears by default on the Command Bar (below the menu bar) in IE 7 as I always customize that area with the buttons I want. You may need to add the Tools Button by right clicking a blank area of the right of the menu bar and select Customise Command Bar . Add or Remove Components. In the dialogue which appears highlight any button in the LH pane and click on Add to add it to the Command Bar icons shown in the RH pane. The order of the icons on the Command Bar can be changed by highlighting the button in the RH pane and clocking on Move Up or Move Down.

I attach an annotated screen shot.

gosh am I gonna seem dumb but have to ask

don't know what LH and RH stand for. ?? I feel stupid but if I don't ask I won't learn anything.
Thanks very much for screen shot. That does help. May I ask what screen shot software you have? I don't get those kind of results with the one in windows . Did use another free program but it was somewhat complicated.
Thank You Kindly for the help.

No problem :) LH = Left Hand, RH = Right Hand

    I use FastStone Capture (freeware)

The annotating was done in Photoshop.

    well, color me embarrassed

of course. LH RH. ! "£ "$%^ Should have realized that.

Trying to get used to IE7. Will check out FastStone and thanks for that.

nuther subject ... newsletter mentions some security updates issued by msft in Nov. I have some but not all. I have auto update on, but find it surprising that I'm missing three. I think they might apply to my system but this is a surprise. Is it safe to just go ahead an install? I'm not certain where the updates get saved to but a box does open and ask where I want it. Normally I'd hit save. Any comment on this? With thanks again.

I wouldn't ask all this as a rule but it came up (for me) for the first time.

Generally you should start a new thread to raise questions on a subject not related to the current thread, but ....

If you have automatic updates on you should be delivered only those that your system needs.

Hitting a link to download the update gives you the option of running it or saving it to run later. Save in a location convenient to yourself, e.g My Documents.

Your best solution go to Microsoft (Windows) Update (Start > Microsoft Update), choose the Express option and let your computer be scanned. If you are missing any updates they will be offered.

    got it and understood

Right, did that earlier and nothing offered, which is why I was confused.
All clear and taken care of now. Much Thanks again.

Really appreciated. Also, must say that the BBS newsletter is really good as you already know. It did alert me to an upgrade I wasn't aware of that was important.

Cheers .... Have a nice wkend, or what's left of it anyway.

Tools on the Toolbar is the default when you install IE7. I got rid of it and several others (Page, Print, Help, etc.) since they seem redundant especially if you restore the old time Menubar. I kept only Mail, RSS and Home. That gives me more space on the Toolbar.
Don't forget what I said in Post #4. "Control+H will open the History panel directly...If you want to open it "pinned" Control+Shift+H "
When pinned, I do not lose the History (or Favorites) panel when I go to full screen. Or when I go from full screen to regular. But I do lose it if it is not pinned.
