Anyone know why there is such a difference in frames per second between latest Msoft Flight Simulator X and the earlier Flight Simulator 9.1 or FS2004?

I get 34-35 FPS running FS2004 default Screen 800x600 but only 10 FPS running FS X default screen 1024x768?

    OS Win XP prof SP2.
    Intel P4 CPU 3.00Ghz (2XCPU)
    2.00GB DDR400 RAM
Page file set at 3070 MB

    Power supply 600 Watts

Have you tried running it at 800X600? I would think you'd get fewer frames per second at 1024X768. I don't know if that would account for all of it but more than likely it's some of it.

    Win XP graphics difference (frames/sec)

    Hi Zander
Yes I have but what I have found out is FSX is written for Windows Vista, also it is written for DX 10 and the new PCI express cards that are due out next year? They don't tell you this on the box.

As far as I know DX 10 is not out yet?

I have got it up to 24 FPS now with tweaks which is not bad but not realistic enough for me yet.

Having been an active Private Pilot for years I might be too picky but the FS2004 at 35 FPS is very good.

Will start reading up on Vista but it is probably far too early?

    Best regards

As far as I can determine from Google (Google for 'DirectX 10') this will come out as part of Vista. Now Vista went RTM (Release to Manufacturing) about 2 weeks ago and will be available generally in January 2007.

    Read about Vista here
