 A search here yielded no help, but where is the setting that allows windows in IE to open maximized? The trick on pg 59 in Windows XP for Dummies does not work. Thanks.

I tried this 3 times, and it didn't work, but I missed the opening in a new window step. It seems to be opening OK now, and filling the screen, but now the window size can't be reduced by using the restore button in the top right of the window. Many thanks.

 Do any of you know if it's possible to have a window open maximized?

Right click on any icon or shortcut to a program - e.g. in Start > Programs > Program you choose and select Properties and select from the Run drop down list Normal, Minimised or Maximised - screenshot.

Thanks for the reply. I tried this from start, programs, IE, and ended up getting the same size window as before. In the upper right hand corner, I still get the single square to maximize, and it makes the window slightly larger. Will this setting allow the window to open maximized, (double squares), and allow the restore down function? Please excuse my computer illiteracy.

No need - we're here to help :)

IE is a strange beast regarding Window size and seems to react differently on some systems to others.

I think this solution will achieve what you want - download and install IE New Window Maximiser and configure it (Options) to start with Windows.

I have used this for a number of years - the maximised window which opens has the double squares icon to allow you to restore the window size down - you will need to resize that restored down window to what you want as you have already increased it to near maximum size through previous posts in this thread.

    BTW - works with IE 6 & 7
