    Dear Friends,

I have 2 computers maybe 3 which when 1st try to go to a site on the internet my browser pulls up the about:blank page which eventually goes to the page I want. I have tried several spyware, adware removal tools the latest being the hijackthis. I am posting the log from my main computer to see if anyone can help identify where the problem is. Thanks for your time. This is one of the worst to get rid of I have seen in years...a major p.i.m.a.
    Have a wonderful day!!

    Hello joezep1.

I'm a little confused by this statement:
Does this mean that when you open IE, it opens to about:blank, and then goes to the page you desire on its own, or do you have to either click links, manually enter site address or select something from your favs list? Sorry for my confusion.

I'm not seeing anything malicious, but a few changes can be made with HJT.

Please follow these instructions, exactly, for proper HJT installation. Please place HJT into ITS OWN PERMANANT FOLDER. It also needs to be removed from the desktop.

You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT. (C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe)Move HijackThis.exe into this folder. When you run HijackThis.exe from C:\HJT folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary which is easily accessible.

Run Hijackthis and look over the following entries I have listed, check the boxes next to them and press the "Fix Checked" button with HijackThis. When you are doing this, make sure you have No IE windows, or other browsers open, including this one. Reboot if I have specified below, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

    Clarification

Sorry about the confusion. What happens when I 1st open the browser it sits at the about:blank in the address bar for 1min or so and then goes to my home page. If I go to another link following this it goes there directly without any problem. Its just the initial browser startup. I will be following your suggestions and reposting the HJT log. Thanks for your time. This has been more than interesting. One other question: Is this " about:blank " ever used or needed any other time? Or just seeing this tells there is an issue? Thanks!!

    change maybe

Hi, Well, I followed the removal proceedure and I will post the new log file below this text. Not sure if I am completely out yet. One thing I did notice, I think is: when you open the browser the about:blank comes 1st but dosn't seem to stay up as long before my home page takes it over. Please let me know. I want it not to be there at all I would think....Talk to you soon.

OK, so it seems the anomaly has gotten better? Odd, the about:blank setting has been fixed, altho it is not always associated with malware.

Many users set their page to just that.

Your log is clean, we need to fix one line which I overlooked, and is not malware related, but remains of an uninstall.

Run HJT and fix the following:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {65D886A2-7CA7-479B-BB95-14D1EFB7946A} - (no file)

Lets try changing your homepage to something other than YaHoo! and see if it does the same thing.

Let us know how it goes.
