I have a compaq V5115US laptop, but it doesn't provide many ports to plug-in (ex: only two usb,one expension port 2)
Now, I look the internet, there seems to be a dock station I can hook up with my laptop, so I can have serial port and parallel port support for my laptop.

Does anyone try those kinds of dock before?
Can someone give some suggestions to pick a compatibility dock with my laptop?

    Thanks a lot~

P.S. if it is possible, I'd like to choose a portable dock.

Docking stations are great. They are really great if they have their own power supply and network adaptor...But, all this comes with a price....Carring one around kind of defeats its purpose...

What is it that you need to add to your notebook that it doesn't already have?

Thank you for answering my question so fast :)

To give more information about my laptop, I posted the product specificaions pages from HP websites

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...81&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=1841909&dlc=en

As you can see, there is no serial and parallel port support in default.
I am current study program language, and I'd like to practice writing some programs to communicate with hardware. There are many starter kits require serial port or parallel port enable.

Or, is there any suggestion about starter kit which only require usb port, I would love to try, too.

Politely asking, "why bother learning to program serial or parrellel hardware? ". Most all of todays computers don't use serial or parrellel devices anymore, even though the ports are there. It is very difficult to even buy a printer anymore that uses a parrellel port, most all are usb now. Expand your laptop by buying a usb mini hub w/ power.

    Well...
I am interested in serial and parallel ports because I got many "old" hardware such as an old GPS or a 10+ years old laptop( which runs Win95), these devices require to be connected by the traditional ports.
maybe it is not worth to buy a dock in order to hook these devices:p
