Just recently I purchased an optical mouse and once in awhile when I boot up my computer, the mouse won't be recognized. It's a simple fix, I just unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in. Before that I used a different optical mouse that plugged into mouse port of my PC. Any ideas why it wouldn't recognized sometimes?

How often is "once in awhile? "

It's pretty tuff to troubleshoot intermitten problems...You could spend hours trying different things and not know for sure if anything is fixed ot not.

On the days where it's not detected do you let it sit for a minute or two to see if the mouse reponds on its own?

I let it sit about half minute and then I will unplug it and then plug it back in. At best it might happen once a week, maybe twice. It's really no big deal and it's certainly tolerable.

I would think that it does not set the drivers correctly, replugging it reloads the drivers.

I would look for an update for the drivers, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any software for it (and look for any software from a previous mouse), go to Device Manager and uninstall it there. Shut down, disconnect the USB mouse and connect the PS/2 mouse, then run the drivers program for the USB mouse when you get to Windows. Shut down and reconnect the USB mouse.

If you have many devices on your USB system, it may starting to get overloaded. You can use a self powered hub, although the mouse may need to be connected directly to the computer.

Cool thanks for the info. Now that I think about it I probably do have a different mouse driver installed. I'll have to investigate and see what is installed.
